  • Description: Stella (Melina Merkouri), a singer at the Paradise nightclub is living a guiltless, turbulent, passionate and vigorous life. When she meets Miltos (Giorgos Fountas), a famous soccer player, she leaves Alekos (Alekos Alexandrakis), the son of a wealthy family. She initially says ‘yes’ to Miltos’ marriage proposal but then changes her mind. On her wedding day, she stands him up at the church to hang out with a young guy (Kostas Kakkavas) she meets on the street. When she returns home at dawn, she finds Miltos waiting for her, they have a fight, and he pulls a knife... Melina Merkouri’s gripping performance and presence established her as a major actress, a symbolic persona, while Kakogiannis’ excellent direction gives it an element of ancient tragedy and makes the film a classic.
